Parents and carers will be encouraged to be involved in their child’s progress as part of building strong partnerships with the Academy. There will be a Home-Academy Agreement that the Academy, parents and carers and the student will all sign. This will set out the responsibilities of all the parties and cover areas such as upholding the dress code around the Academy uniform, punctual and regular attendance and exemplary behaviour.

"Your hair grows around 1.25cm per month. With age the speed of hair growth might slow down to as little as 0.25cm."

The Academy wants parents and carers to be fully involved, to talk to teachers and meet staff, in order to understand what is going on.

Each student will have a planner which will tell families about the homework that has been set and what their child is learning as part of their Academy day, as well as the progress they should be making. The Academy will run workshops on different topics, particularly literacy so that parents and carers can support their child’s education.

Taking responsibility

The Academy believes in the traditional values of respect and courtesy for others. Good behaviour will be expected at all times both within the Academy and when students are arriving or leaving the Academy at the end of the Academy day. Smoking, drugs and alcohol will not be permitted on the Academy site at any time. Such behaviour will not be tolerated and could lead to exclusion. When students join the Academy, parents and carers will be given more information about the policies and rules that apply.

There will be a zero tolerance approach to bullying as the Academy community should be a safe place for all students. The building has been designed in a way that encourages safety and security and its culture will reinforce that. Students will be expected to stay on site during lunchtimes to promote a calm and orderly environment. By building strong relationships with other schools and parents and carers Red House Academy will give its students an excellent education where high standards and individual learning are at the heart of the Academy.

Academy uniform

The uniform will be part of a student’s pride in belonging to Red House Academy. They are ambassadors for the Academy and this applies as much to their appearance going to and from the Academy as when they are studying within the Academy. A smart appearance will be expected at all times and parents are asked to ensure this is respected. More details on this are in the Home-Academy Agreement which will be shared with successful applicants for places at the Academy.
