Academy Structure

Red House Academy will adopt a model of two Academies within an Academy: Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. The building is a two floor design, using a combination of traditional and modern materials with flexible working spaces.

"The first product to ever be scanned with a bar code was Wrigley's gum on June 26, 1974."

The ground floor will accommodate KS3 pupils, incorporating the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and a large hall allowing group and large project work, as well as performance and presentations. The upper floor will accommodate senior pupils at KS4 and will house a specialist music suite and recording studio.

The specialism is reflected across the Academy in its ICT infrastructure and specialist rooms. Vocational provision will be found in the Hair & Beauty Salon, Industrial Kitchen and a space that can be used for construction, specialised engineering activities and problem solving activities. This will be in addition to resources provided by City of Sunderland College, our Sixth Form at St Peter’s, the resources of other Sunderland Secondary schools and the Skills Centres located at Pallion & Harraton.

Transition

Red House Academy is already working very closely with feeder primaries to ensure the smooth transition of your children. Primary children are often wary about moving into a new situation with older children. Our relationship with the Primary schools will ensure your child’s familiarity with the Academy and its staff and our familiarity with your child’s aptitudes and needs so that we can plan their learning journey from entry.

Moving into KS3 will be a more comfortable transition, transferring into a smaller environment, with staff specialists in KS2-3 transition, supporting your child in his/her move.

Students will journey through KS3 at their own pace. Pupils capable of sitting SATs before Year 9 will do so. All students will be supported in their transitions from KS3 into KS4 curriculum and again from KS4 through to St Peter’s Sixth Form, the City of Sunderland College or into the world of work.
